Cheers to New Beginnings

We are just five days away from meeting our little girl, and getting this close has brought up more feelings than I expected.

After losing Shad and then Joe, I truly believed I would never have another dog. Losing them hurt too much, and for a long time the idea of loving another dog felt almost disrespectful. Like making room for someone new somehow meant leaving them behind.

Eventually, I realized that wasn't what was happening.

I'm a dog person to my core, but Frenchies have always had a particular hold on me. Joe was everything I had hoped for when I brought home my first French Bulldog. Shad came into my life under completely different circumstances, but loving him only made me more certain that this breed would always be part of my life.

So, seven years after I first considered breeding French Bulldogs, I reached back out to Tanya at NW Frenchies. At first, I was simply wondering whether I was ready to bring another Frenchie home.

Then I saw Penny.

Somewhere along the way, the idea I'd put away years ago started creeping back in too.

In five days, this tiny girl comes home. She gets to be our puppy first. She'll grow up with my family while I get to know the dog she's becoming, and when she's old enough, she'll complete the health testing required for my program.

The hope is that Penny will eventually become the foundation of Everwilde.

It's strange seeing that written down after carrying the idea around for so long. There is still a lot of growing between here and there, and I'm in no hurry to rush any of it.

Right now, I'm mostly counting down the days until I finally get to hold her.

See you soon, little Pecan. 🤎

xoxo
